A Comfortable and Therapeutic Setting

When our clients feel safe, they can begin a healing process that inspires mental, physical, and emotional change and growth. Our Crisis Stabilization home is a six-person facility carefully designed to promote a sense of calm, safety, and security, which are essential for clients facing a mental health crisis. The home features a comfortable setting with spacious areas ideal for group therapy, as well as private offices dedicated to individualized therapy sessions.

Intensive Care and Supervision

The facility operates with 24-hour psychiatric nursing and supervision, ensuring continuous observation, monitoring, and intervention. This level of care is one step above residential treatment, making it suitable for those who do not meet the criteria for residential inpatient care or acute hospitalization. Our crisis stabilization unit is not a locked facility, which means our clients have agency in their decision to come to treatment. The moment clients are admitted to our crisis unit, they are provided with a sense of freedom while still offering the necessary support during their stay, which typically ranges from 7 to 21 days.

Tailored Therapeutic Interventions

Clients receive at least two individual therapy sessions per week and regular appointments with the case management team, alongside group therapy sessions, experiential therapy, and other therapeutic activities. The treatment modalities we employ include Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Solution-Focused Therapy (SFT), Narrative Therapy, Motivational Interviewing (MI), Social Skills Training (SST), and more. Additionally, we incorporate holistic practices such as yoga, breathwork, art therapy, and physical movement groups with a physical therapist. When necessary, clients will have weekly appointments with a Registered Dietician Nutritionist (RDN) to support overall well-being and the structure of our holistic approach.

Our goal is to equip clients with coping skills for symptom management and overall functioning, laying a strong foundation for long-term recovery. This focus on short-term crisis management is essential in helping clients stabilize before transitioning to a lower level of care, such as residential treatment, following a thorough evaluation by our multidisciplinary clinical and psychiatric team.

Family Involvement and Aftercare Planning

Understanding that crisis situations can be frightening for both clients and their families, we involve the client’s family from the very beginning. Our team reaches out to family members immediately after admission to involve them in the treatment and discharge planning process. Many of our clients have had previous experiences with hospitalization and may carry complex trauma from those experiences, making it crucial to build trust and provide reassurance through family support.

As the client stabilizes and shows measurable improvement in acute symptoms or behaviors, we work closely with them and their families to develop a comprehensive discharge plan. This plan may include continued care with Neurish Wellness or a referral to another reputable provider, ensuring a smooth transition to the next stage of recovery.

Frequently Asked Questions

What are crisis stabilization units, and when should someone consider them?

Crisis stabilization units (CSUs) are specialized facilities designed to provide short-term, intensive care for individuals experiencing a mental health crisis. These units are ideal when a person is struggling with severe emotional distress, self-harm, or other behaviors that place them at risk but do not require the intensity of a hospital setting. CSUs help stabilize individuals and connect them with ongoing care and resources.

What should I do if a mental health crisis occurs?

When a mental health crisis occurs, it’s essential to seek immediate help. If the situation involves imminent danger, such as suicidal thoughts or self-harm, and the person is not in need of emergency room services, a crisis stabilization unit may be the appropriate next step. These units provide a safe environment where the individual can receive care, support, and stabilization.

What are the warning signs that someone might need crisis stabilization services?

Warning signs that someone might need crisis stabilization services include severe depression, thoughts of suicide, increased risk of self-harm, sudden withdrawal from community activities, or escalating stress that impacts their daily life. If these signs are present, it’s important to seek help immediately to prevent the situation from worsening.

How long do people typically stay in a crisis stabilization unit, and what happens afterward?

The typical stay in a crisis stabilization unit at Neurish Wellness ranges from 7 to 21 days, depending on the individual’s needs and the severity of their health crisis. Why is community support important during and after a mental health crisis?

Community support plays a vital role in recovery during and after a mental health crisis. It provides individuals with a network of care that can help them stay connected to resources, reduce isolation, and prevent the recurrence of a crisis.
